Munster ILCA Championship

October 7, 2026·Latest·2 min·

The Munster ILCA Championship took place in Baltimore last weekend the 3rd and 4th of October after having been postponed earlier in the year due to bad weather.
Great to see a good representation from the Royal Cork Yacht Club of 15 boats participating and competing across the fleets. Very promising to see all the new sailors who have moved up from other classes competing in a ILCA regional event for the first time and this helps strengthen the class for next year with the ILCA Nationals in the Royal Cork Yacht Club next year.
Weather was good for the weekend with light wind on Saturday of 7-8kn and  10-15 kn on Sunday.
Well done to Tara Hayes. Harry Coole, Eoin Pierse, Ollie Sugars and Amy Whyte in the ILCA 4 Class and Saoirse O’Herlihy, Luke Power, Matt Mappleback and Serin Galvin in the ILCA 6 class. Our Coach Andrew Kingston competed in the ILCA 7 fleet with Owen Hennessey  and Sean Herlihy.
Well done to all the sailors who competed.
Congratulations to Eolann Miles who came 1st, Conor Lynch 3rd and Blake Vaughan 5th all in ILCA 6 . Nice to see Royal Club Yacht Club leading the way.
Congratulations to Isaac Vaughan who was 3rd in ILCA 4.
It was super to be able to be in the dinghy park and on race course with current Olympic sailors. It is one of very few opportunities for  Royal Cork Yacht Club to be on race course with Olympic campaigners in Ireland. We could see from interactions that our junior sailors really appreciated the presence of top class Irish Olympic sailors competing in an event with junior sailors. This interaction will help develop and expand the ambitions of all our sailors.
Thanks to Ciaran McSweeney the Race Officer who ran very tight efficient races.
Thank as always to Baltimore Sailing Club for organizing the event and the warm reception .
We have a very strong winter plan in place which will be posted over the next week which should have us well prepared for next season .
