The very popular PY1000 takes place again on Saturday 1st April 2023 in the Royal Cork Yacht Club. This year, the event is kindly sponsored by Crosshaven House in a new partnership which proprietor Noel Corcoran has kindly agreed to make long standing. With racing at high tide, the plan as always is to race in the river if conditions allow. This is always an amazing spectacle and a great opportunity to dust down your boat and get it ready for the year ahead.
Crosshaven House is an elegant eighteenth century country house where the spaciousness and elegance of the Georgian age is combined with the comforts of modern living. The spacious and elegant reception rooms are complimented by the 5 separate suites on the upper floors, offering the height of luxury with a homely and comfortable feel. Catering equally well for wedding parties, corporate events or private hire, you will be assured a stay to remember.
For the first time ever, the race will be a pursuit race with boats starting in order of slowest to fastest and the first across the line wins with placings on the water being the final position. This emulates the famous ‘Bloody Mary’ event which takes place in January of each year in London.
This year, the €1,000 will be split with €700 for the winner, €200 for second and €100 for third. There will also be some great prizes available for youngest sailor, first female helm, youngest combined crew age and oldest combined crew age.
