World Police & Fire Games in Belfast – Congratulations to Billy Duane.

Great result for Royal Cork sailor Billy Duane Snr who came 4th for Ireland in the World Police & Fire Games sailing event in the Laser standard, in Belfast at the weekend.

The action took place over 3 days at Ballyholme Yacht Club and both the weather and the competition were tough. The start was delayed on Friday and despite 2 races starting, they were abandoned due to 30 knot winds. A change of course on the Saturday and a slight drop in wind facilitated 4 good races with Billy taking two 3rds and a couple of 4th places. Sunday started light but in the space of ten minutes the wind picked up to 18 knots and another 3 good races were had with Billy just missing out on a podium position.

Winner of the event, Jules Ferrer, is the French National Laser Champion and silver medalist Rob Cullen is Canadian champion in the Star fleet.

Well done to Billy.
