Eight boats came to the start for the second race in the
Heineken White Sail April League at the Royal Cork Yacht Club
last Saturday.
Conditions were perfect for a running start with a 15 knot breeze
from the West. Having crossed the Harbour to Cork Beg,
the fleet proceeded up towards Cobh followed by a trip out
towards Roches Point. At this stage, Flying Colours (TBA) lead
the fleet with Cavatina (Ian Hickey) and Split Point (Seamus Gilroy)
close behind.
A quick sprint back in the harbour lead to confusion at No 8 Buoy
where Flying Colours rounded the mark incorrectly leaving the door
open for Cavatina to take the lead and maintain this position to
take line honours. The remaining fleet enjoyed the stiffening breeze
which lead to some good close quarter racing.
On corrected time, Split Point took 1st, Molia (Denis Murphy) 2nd and
3rd Raparee (Tom O’Mahony. After two rounds of the league, Molia is lying 1st Overall
with 2nd going to Tranquilizer (Colin Morehead) and 3rd Split Point. Race 3 of the 4 race
series takes place next Saturday with FG at 1425hrs.
