It was a busy day at the Club to-day both on and off the water. An enthusiastic band of Optimists, including those from other clubs, were training and racing in anticipation of the start of The Cobbler League starting tomorrow.(Sun). The Fireflies were flying on the river and the J80s were enjoying intense racing in the strong and very gusty westerly breeze.
Due to the squally weather the multi-hulls did not race but some went out for pure enjoyment anyway.
The University of Limerick sailing team were spotted getting in some practice and to-day also saw the start of the arrival of the big guns for the opening races of the O’Flynn Exhams Solicitors Autumn League in the shape of Blondie, Mariners Cove and a very welcome arrival from Dublin, Tim Costellos’s Tiamat.
The third League commencing to-morrow will be the RS Fevas and the J80 Sailfleet will be departing for Kinsale where the boats will be based for match racing at the end of the month.
Pics of to-day’s activity on the water can be seen on the Bateman Gallery.
