Four races have been sailed to date in this eleven race series and Anthony O’Leary and his crew did us proud to-day with two firsts. However, a 14th in race 4 gave him a total of 19 points some nine points adrift of the leader, the Royal Canadian Yacht Club, with the New York Yacht Club in second place on 16 points. The Cork entry has a protest against the Yacht Club Italiano which at time of writing had yet to be heard.
The Royal St. George Yacht Club entry, skippered by Michael Cotter, with tactician Andrew Fowler and Maurice (Prof) O’Connell on board, is lying 12th overall. Another name that will be well known to Royal Cork members is Jamie McWilliam who is skippering the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club entry and is currently lying joint 16th.
Keeping it in the family for Anthony O’Leary is David Aisher who is skippering the Royal Ocean Racing Club entry and is lying eighth.
An interesting point regarding this event and one with which we are not too familiar is the fact that there will be no discard race and a yacht’s score will be her total points.
Each boat competing has been given a name for the event. Our entry is Blazer, the Royal Canadian Yacht Club is Daring, the New York Yacht Club is Arethusa,The Royal St. George is Bandit, The Yacht Club Italiano is Mutiny, The Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club is Impetuous and the RORC’s entry is The Cat Came Back.
