Conditions were extremely light with thoughts of a postponement high on the agenda. However, a light South Easterly came up in time for the race start at 1900hrs, ably supervised by Mary O’Keeffe and her team. Indulgence (Aidan Heffernan), Aramis (Pat Vaughan) and Plumbat (Roy Hannon) were first round the weather mark with the majority of boats deciding to cross the harbour and take the west channel back to the finish. Golden Odyssey (Robert Jefferies) and Tranquilizer (Colin Morehead) decided to take the East Channel a move which gained them several places on the water.
