The Topper Ireland event calendar is well under way with 2 events completed to date.
The Topper Ireland Winter Championships were held in Royal North of Ireland Yacht Club in March 19th in a sunny but very windy Belfast Lough. With 35knots gusting on the committee boat on day 1, the Race Officer decided not to launch the toppers and await calmer conditions. Day2 was a little lighter and the series was completed with one race. Eoin Byrne came 3rd( 2nd Male Youth), with Fionn Daly came 9th(3rd Male Junior).
The first traveller of the season took place last weekend at Lough Derg Yacht Club with a very large entry of 61 toppers, but with very strong winds once again, only 37 boats launched. The racing was abandoned after 2 races , with both mainfleet races won by Liam Duggan giving him the overall prize(1st Male Youth), and Ellen McDonagh 1st place in Junior girls, Max Passberger 2nd Youth Male, and in the 4.2 fleet Andrew O’Neill finished in 3rd place.
