Tom Durcan serves up a Feast for Junior Sailors and Parents

The annual junior beach party was held on Sunday. Great plans had been made to run racing in the J80’s and barbecue in Ringabella. However, the weather didn’t look great and it was decided to take the sailors to the beach by rib and have the barbecue at the dinghy centre instead. This proved to be a great sucess.

Tom and Yvonne Durcan most generously provided the meat. Enough sausages, lamb kebabs, burgers, ribs, ham and beef was cooked by Tom and Grattan Roberts to cater for the vast army of well over a hundred junior sailors and parents who mustered for the event in spite of the dodgy weather.

Claire Burke and Mairead Roberts should take a bow for organising the ancillary bits and pieces. Our thanks are also due to club chef, Ger, for providing the salads and barbecue equipment.

Further thanks are due to the parents who took the sailors to the beach in club ribs and in their own boats, notably Frank Thompson and Jim McGinley.

A great afternoon was had by all.
