Some very useful information on the Maritime Radio Programme presented by Royal Cork Member Tom MacSweeney. Tom, well known for his long standing support for all things marine provides excellent articles and interviews which are awaited eagerly by those interested in the sea and related matters.
Perhaps there are members out there who have knowledge of many items which might be of interest to listeners and readers and I am sure Tom would be very interested to hear from them. Read below for interesting items coming up and for dates, times and access to the programme.:
Offshore island communities have been shocked by the decision of the Minister for the Environment to stop funding community development companies on non-Gaeltacht offshore islands. The amount involved is €600,000 a year and the decision is specifically aimed at islands which are classified as not speaking Irish. On next week’s edition of THIS ISLAND NATION Tom MacSweeney will talk to Mairtin Ó Mealóid, Chairman of Comhdháil Oileán na hÉireann, which represents the offshore island communities, who says that the decision shows no consideration for the future of the islands. The programme will also report the story of a marine engineer who has been stopped for three years by the Department of the Marine from establishing a business at Howth harbour in County Dublin and will hear about the importance of public involvement in watching the coastline.
There are always interesting stories on THIS ISLAND NATION which joins together ‘the family of the sea’ and is broadcast on:
