O’LEARY AND GOODBODY NOW LYING 6TH AT STAR WORLDS

STAR CLASS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP VARBERG, SWEDEN AUGUST 2ND TO AUGUST 9TH, 2009

Peter O’Leary Royal Cork YC and his crew Tim Goodbody Royal Irish YC are lying in sixth position in a fleet of 95 after the second day of racing at the International Star Class World Championship 2009. O’Leary and Goodbody are the current Eastern Hemisphere Star Champions and now ranked 9th in the world rankings for the class.  In the current event they had a 15th in Race 1 but a10th in Race 2 brought them to current 6th position overall. Fellow Irish competitors Max Treacy and Anthony Shanks of Dublin had a 12th in Race 1, a 33rd in Race 2 and are now lying 20th.

The Championship is being contested by the top Star sallors in the world and includes a large number of Olympic Gold Medallists and former World Champions. The defending champions, Mateusz Kusznierewicz and crew Dominik Zycki of Poland, are currently in fourth position.  Current leader is Flavio Marazzi and crew Enrico de Maria of Switzerland with Frederik Loof and crew Johan Tillandere of the host country in second and Mark Mendleblatt and crew Mark Strube of the USA in third place.
