Club member, Sophie Browne, has just won a Silver Medal at the Optimist World Championship in Napier, New Zealand. Sophie was 13th overall and was only beaten by the overall World Champion, Kimberly Lin of Singapore.
This was no flash in the pan. Sophie had a marvellous season finishing 4th overall (and first girl) at in Palma before Christmas in a fleet of almost 400 boats; winning the Irish Trials; 2nd overall and first girl at the National Championships; 1st Girl and 7th overall (out of 450) at the French Open Championships and won two of the four regional championships to finish as top ranked sailor in Ireland.
