A large number of basking sharks have been spotted in and around outer cork harbour in recent days and they are an amazing site. Typically six to eight meters in length , the basking shark is the second largest living fish and they survive on eating plankton, so no large teeth required.
A number of our optimist sailors were sailing at the mouth of the harbour over the weekend and ended up sharing the same waters with a number these creatures. Looking at the photos taken, up close and personal would best describe their encounter as they sailed along side these enormous fish. Fair to say our oppi sailors have no fear when it comes to sharks……………
