Royal Cork Yacht Club to host ISA All Ireland Championships

The Irish Sailing Association’s All Ireland Sailing Championship will take place in Cork Harbour hosted by the Royal Cork Yacht Club this coming weekend September 24-26. With sailors drawn from the most competitive racing classes in the country in the past year, the contest to find a winner of the ISA’s Helmsman’s Trophy should prove interesting.

The pre-race favourite will be the defending champion Nicholas O’Leary of host club Royal Cork whose father Anthony will be hoping to finish his  season with his first win in this event. Anthony O’Leary, as we all know, was the captain of the victorious Irish team in the Rolex Commodore’s Cup helming Antix while Nicholas was on the helm of marinerscove.ie. A late addition is Andrew Creighton, which means the three helms from the winning Rolex Commodore’s Cup team all from the Royal Cork will be competing. This will certainly add extra zest to the competition. Mel Collins, nominated by ICRA for the Division 1 win at the Cruiser Nationals on Paul O’Higgins’ Rockabill V, declined an invitation to compete.
