Royal Cork Yacht Club Shines at Calves Week 2025
The vibrant and much-anticipated Calves Week Regatta, hosted by Schull Harbour Sailing Club, wrapped up last week after four exhilarating days of competitive sailing. The regatta once again drew sailors from across the country to the picturesque waters off the West Cork coast, delivering thrilling racing under favourable conditions.
Among the standout performers this year was the Royal Cork Yacht Club (RCYC), whose boats featured prominently across multiple classes. The club’s members secured an impressive number of podium finishes — in fact, so many that it’s difficult to list them all!
Notable Class Winners from Royal Cork:
- Bataleur 88 (Pat Tanner) took top honours in Class 2 Echo, showcasing consistent speed and tactical prowess throughout the week.
- Muskateer (Gary O’Neill, James Kelleher) claimed victory in Class 3 Echo, marking a strong performance in a highly competitive fleet.
- Swuzzlebubble (James Dwyer) stormed to first place in Class 2 IRC, a class that saw tight racing and frequent lead changes.
- Diamond (Colman Garvey/Kierin Kelleher) triumphed in Class 3 IRC, building on their solid record in regional regattas.
- IMP (George Radley) brought home the win in the hotly contested ORC 1 category.
- Indulgence (Aidan Heffernan) sailed a superb regatta to finish first in White Sails IRC 1.
- Aisling (Bryan Heffernan) rounded off the RCYC wins with a top finish in White Sails Echo 1.
These victories underline RCYC’s continued strength across all classes, from performance racing divisions to white sail cruisers.
The week wasn’t just about results — it was also a celebration of the sport’s spirit, community, and the beauty of West Cork’s coastline. With excellent weather and a warm welcome from Schull, this year’s event was a fitting showcase of Irish sailing at its best.
Congratulations to all who took part, and especially to the many Royal Cork crews who made their mark on the regatta.
