Royal Cork sailors Cian Byrne and Seafra Guilfoyle capped a stellar performance in the Laser Radials at the Garda Europa Cup which finished aptly on St Patrick’s Day.
This “Blue Ribbon” Regatta is attended by the cream of Europe’s Laser sailors and sailed in a fleet of 165 boats on the stunning Lake Garda.
Cian won the U17 section by 40 points and finished an impressive 18th overall, a brilliant result for his age group in a combined fleet of 165 boats (mostly U19’s). Cian has only just moved up to a Radial and is certainly settling in well.
Seafra Guilfoyle also showed brilliant form by securing an 8th overall which is also a magnificent performance. The Irish contingent comprising the ISA team and Thomas Chaix’s “Bcademy” dominated the event. Baltimore’s Fionn Lyden won the event overall with Robbie Gilmore (Strangford Lough) 2nd, and Finn Lynch(NYC) 4th. With Seafra’s 8th overall, 4 Irish sailors in the top 10 prompted the event website to state “…the waters of Lake Garda have turned Green for St Patrick’s Day..”
Patrick Crosbie also performed very well in securing a 6th place in the silver fleet with Dermot Lyden 45th in silver.
Well done to everyone. Photo Fionn Lyden & Cian Byrne.
