Season Update

This Year the RS FEVA Fleet took early to the waters at the IS Youth Nationals – Ballyholme Sailing Club (9th–12th April 2026)
Congratulations to Nicholas Nyhan and Ciaran Keating, who secured 3rd place in the RS Feva fleet. Remarkably, Nicholas had only just acquired a new boat on the journey north, making this regatta its first competitive outing. What a way to put a new boat through its paces!

The consistent club training for throughout pre-season paid off  and the fleet were ready once again to take on the RS Feva Southern Championships – 20th June 2026 held in Monkstown Bay SC.
The club was well represented at the RS Feva Southern Championships, with 15 sailors competing.  This was some sailors first time competiting in a Regional Competition, well done to them all.
The day began with a lengthy delay due to a lack of wind. Although the first race started promisingly, it had to be abandoned when the breeze disappeared midway through. Fortunately, conditions improved later, allowing three excellent races to be completed in quick succession before everyone enjoyed the customary championship BBQ.
A huge thank you goes to John Crotty (OOD), Ant Coole (RS Feva Class Captain), and the entire safety and race management teams for delivering a successful championship despite some challenging and unpredictable conditions.

RS Fest Inlands – Blessington Sailing Club (18th–19th July 2026) saw another successful event for the RCYC RS Feva team.
Another super event well run with some challenging shifty conditions on the last day of racing. With 17 boats racing the fleets were split into Gold and Silver with the 2 RCYC boats making Gold Fleet. Sister team Jenny & Aisling O’Connor maintained great consistency across the regatta holding with 3 thirds, 4th,  5th and discarding a 6th led them to take 3rd position overall.  James Nyhan & Cillian Fouhy made a strong gain on day 2 to climb to 8th place overall. Youen Deasy paired with Simon Mills from CSC came up to take 2nd in the Silver Fleet.

The RS Feva is one of RCYC’s most popular junior sailing classes, giving young sailors an excellent opportunity to develop racing skills, teamwork, and confidence on the water. As a two-person dinghy, it teaches communication, boat handling, and tactical awareness in a fun, supportive, and competitive environment. For more information contact Class Captain Olivia O’Connor.
