Royal Cork Optimists are flying the Royal Cork burgee with distinction at
the British Optimist National Junior Championships at Pwllheli in North Wales.
Seafra Guilfoyle leads the way in 5th, followed by Peter McCann in 11th,
Patrick Crosbie in 12th and Cian Byrne in 20th.
The complete results for the junior fleet are here .
Seafra Guilfoyle is putting in a really strong challenge with counting all
top 10 results in the 8 race series so far. Peter McCann is also showing well
with a 2nd in race 2 and counting only one result outside the top 10. He is
followed very closely by Patrick Crosbie who is having a fine regatta in his
new boat. He has no results outside the top 20 and is really coming to the
fore.
Ruairi Finnegan from Dunmore East (whose father Robert of 3 Mobile has
very kindly sponsored the Irish Junior Optimist Squad team gear) is next best
of the Irish in 17th with our own Cian Byrne in 20th
despite the disappointment of an OCS where he finished in 5th place.
Philip Brownlow had a poor day by his high standards yesterday to lie 35th,
having started the regatta really well with two podium finishes, but hopes to
bounce back in the sunshine today.
Sophie Browne and Mark Bolger are also acquitting themselves
well in this very competitive fleet of 160 boats.
In the senior Fleet, best of the Irish is Colm O’Regan of
Kinsale in 12th closely followed by Alexander Rumball of RStGYC in
14th. Chloe Crosbie, Chris Phelan, Katherine Geoghegan and Lucy
Bolger of the Royal Cork are finding the going a bit tougher in 150 boat fleet
for the over 12’s. Experience shows that the benefits of attending these big
overseas regattas will stand to them in the future.
The results for the main fleet are here .
