An invite was recently extended to all Junior sailors of the royal cork to visit the Munster rugby training facility located in Cork, which needless to say was accepted without hesitation.
The visit started with a tour of the training facilities , followed by a detailed talk from full time Munster nutritionist Catherine Norton who explained the importance of healthy diet to the performance of all Munster players. In addition, the finer detail of a typical day for a Munster rugby player in training was outlined and to say it was action packed would be an understatement !
Next was an overview from the resident strength and conditioning personnel , followed by a trip outdoors to see the players go through their paces on the pitch. The visit was closed out by a talk as to how our young sailors can prepare effectively for regattas and where they can gain competitive advantage from eating and drinking correctly on the race course.
It was a fantastic experience and hopefully our junior sailors who attended will apply some of the lessons of the day to the larger regattas they attend as well as weekly league racing.
