Team Royal Cork swept the board at the East Antrim Boat club last weekend when our sailors won 3 out of the 4 categories. Johnny Durcan took top honours for the 4.7 section with stablemate Ronan Walsh finishing 6th in his first ever laser event. In the Radial section Cian Byrne finished runner up to the unstoppable Seafra Guilfoyle who won 5 out of the 6 races. Not to be outdone by the juniors, Nick Walsh won the Masters section and was a very respectable 4th overall in the standard rig. A very solid performance also from Eddie Rice who finished 4th Master. Well done, it was well worth the journey.
In addition, the week prior to the Ulsters, the Irish Laser Radial squad took part in a Europa Cup event at Hoorn in the Netherlands. Sailing in strong winds the squad did themselves proud. Seafra Guilfoyle was 1st U19 and 4th Overall, followed by Ross O’Sullivan (KYC) 3rd U19 and 7th Overall, our own Cian Byrne (Royal Cork) 5th U19 and 16th Overall, Conor O’Beirne (RStGYC) 6th U17 and 32nd Overall and Sorcha Ni Shuilleabhain (KYC) 41st Overall.
