David Harrington went racing for the first time on Saturday last, crewing for his older brother Richy. His first taste of competitive sailing should keep him coming back for more as they won the first Feva league race of the season and were runner-up in the second.
League racing for Optimists and Feva’s started on the first weekend of April in wonderful conditions with a light breeze and beautiful sunshine. Feva and Optimist racing is being run at the same time this year on both Saturday’s and Tuesday’s (the evening leagues start in June) to show a pathway for the older Optimist children to continue sailing after Optimists and to facilitate parents with children in both classes.
8 Feva’s took to the water together with 17 Optimists. Optimist numbers were unusually low as many of the boats had already left for international Easter regattas in Brassemermeer (Netherlands) and Lake Garda (Italy). Good luck to all the travellers!
In the Feva class, Richy & David Harrington won the first race from Isabelle & Tom Morehead. The results were reversed in the second race.
The Optimist races were both won by Brendan Lyden from Amy (another) Harrington. Jil McGinley is beginning to get the results her capabilities deserve with a 5th and a 3rd.
Racing continues tomorrow (Easter Saturday 11th).
The complete results for both Feva’s and Optimists can be seen from the Results section in the top menu bar of the website. Don’t click on the Results button, just hover over it and the drop-down menus will appear. Then choose the Dinghy Results item. Note that it is hoped to improve the navigation here in the near future.
Thanks to Gabrielle Morehead for the photographs.
