Racing blown out again today at Skandia Sail for Gold at Weymouth

Once again conditions in Weymouth made sailing for Day 5 of the Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta impossible. This now means that the medal races will take place tomorrow with three Irish teams having finished in the top ten in their fleets: Peter O’Leary and David Burrows  placed third overall in the Star after only 6 races, Ryan Seaton and Matt McGovern in the 49er placed tenth and Annalise  Murphy goes forward  in fifth place.

Gusts of between 35 and 55 knots today ensured that all racing was cancelled. The medal races tomorrow will be worth double points so everything is down to the wire particularly in the Star Class with Iain Percy and Andrew Simpson GBR leading on 14 pts, Robert Scheidt and Bruno Prada BRA 14 pts and Peter O’Leary and David Burrows IRL on 17 pts.  As always the Star Class is completely unpredictable with this tightly knit group of top star sailors always in contention and nobody can be sure for certain what will transpire during the medal race with more of ‘the names’ just behind the leaders champing at the bit and, as usual, nothing will be over  until the fat lady sings!

We wish all the competitors the very best of luck for tomorrow.
