“Serious” Optimist Coaching in Crosshaven

Happy Optimist Sailors

23 Royal Cork Optimist sailors enjoyed 2 days super training in the fantastic, Spring-like conditions of last weekend. The coaching took place  under the watchful eye of guest International coach Massimo Giorgianni along with our local coaches Nin O’Leary and George Kennefick.

The conditions on Saturday and Sunday may have contrasted in terms of wind speed but there was one constant  – the glorious sunshine. Massimo, who hails from the Trieste area of Italy, has been a very successful coach for the Italian Sailing Federation for many years and has vast experience at the highest levels of youth sailing.

The video debriefs he provided after sailing were informative, educational and indeed somewhat unforgiving as many moments, rather forgotten by some it must be said, were captured and enjoyed enormously by the sailors (see smiling faces in the pictures and the rights for worldwide publication are currently under negotiation). As it is said…”the camera never lies!”. The rest of the photographs can be seen on the club gallery here .

Grazi Massimo, Nin and George for a great weekend! Hopefully we can arrange to get Massimo back to the club soon and indeed some of the children will be lucky enough to see Massimo again in Schull during the mid term IODAI coaching.

Thanks to the Mums too for providing the very welcome hot chocolate drinks.

The return of a ‘rig rack’ in the dinghy centre, courtesy of Kevin Lane/Cedarlan and the hard work of Mark Bushe, was greatly appreciated  by the sailors and this will be of great assistance to them (and their parents!?) over the winter training programme. Well done guys.

No coaching in the club for a while now until the rescheduled IODAI training on 23rd and 24th  Feb.

To those heading for Schull, Kinsale or further afield – enjoy.
