Optimist sailors presented with Trials Jackets & prepare for UK Spring Championships

RCYC Optimist Trials 2016 Team

Last weekend was a successful return to the water for the RCYC Oppie fleet. There were 2 fleets with 20 sailors out training, they included our trials sailors as well as 8 up and coming sailors who trained on Sunday taking advantage of the good weather.

Mark Ring was busy bringing some parents up to speed assessing them to qualify to drive club ribs in the future. They all passed! This is important for both competence and insurance reasons. If you have a sailor in the Optimist class but have not got your cert please contact Mark or Miriam to take this forward. The Oppies can only exist with parent support and this includes on the water supervision.

Rear Admiral O Shaughnessy presented our 2016 Trials sailors with their Trials jackets on Saturday afternoon. This is a big deal for our sailors, with a significant number getting them for the first time.  It was also a proud moment for their parents as the sailors had to put in a significant amount of work and time the previous season to qualify. Absent from the photo were Adam Power and Ben O Hare. Congratulations to all. RCYC wishes them every success at Howth Yacht Club in late March over this 4 day event.

RCYC Optimist 2016 UK Spring Championship Team

This weekend also sees 13 of our sailors going to Cardiff to the UK Optimist Spring Championships. There will  be in the region of 160 boats competing at the event. RCYC sailors should be recognisable by their trials Jackets (see Photo). They will be looked after by a number of traveling parents as well as on the water support provided by Thomas Chaix. Good luck to all.

While that group are away sailing here continues with a full coaching program for all our sailors not travelling this coming weekend. We hope our good luck with the recent weather continues.
