The format of the Coveney Cup, traditionally a Mirror event, was opened to all junior sailors for the first time this year and attracted entries from the Mirrors, Lasers, Fevas and Optimists.

Rear-Admiral, Jimmy Nyhan, took on the onerous task of Principal Race Officer and results calculator. He provided excellent racing with the faster boats sailing an extra round. His experience calculating handicap results for the cruiser fleets proved invaluable as he apply Portsmouth Yardstick handicaps to provide unquestionable results for boats that sailed different courses!

The final result was in doubt up to the last with Peter McCann finishing 2nd in the last race to pip the race winners Laura and Louise McCarthy in a Mirror and Amy Harrington, also in an optimist, for the overall prize. The results can be seen here .

Hugh Coveney’s widow, Pauline, was on hand to present the magnificent trophy.

Admiral, Hugh Mockler, thanked Pauline for coming to the club specially to present the trophy and praised the great work of Ann Doran and Jimmy Nyhan in running the event.

Bob Bateman was on hand to photograph the action and his photographs can be seen here .
