O’LEARY AND MILNE SIXTH POSITION AFTER RACE ONE

NEWS FLASH 10.40AM  At long last the wait is over and Peter O’Leary and Stephen Milne in the Star Class Race One got away in 9kts of breeze.

Sailing a windward/leeward course and with a wind that varied by up to 30 degrees the team were 6th at the first mark, slipped to 7th during the race, having been passed by New Zealand, but pulled up a place again to finish an excellent 6th.  Favourite Robert Scheidt of Brazil was lying 12th, slipped to 13th, and eventually finished 10th.  Current leaders are Sweden, Germany and Portugal in that order.

Tim Goodbody in the Finn has completed Race Eight, fnishing in 15th position.  He is now lying 21st overall.  The current leaders are Australia, followed by France and Portugal.

In the Men’s 470 Ger Owens and Phil Lawton have completed Race Seven finishing 21st and after one discard are now lying 14th overall.

Ciara Peelo in the Laser Radial has just finished Race Four in 7th position and lies 14th overall.

UPDATE: 12.40pm

There will not be any further racing to-day.

Star Class: Races Two,Three and Four are now scheduled for to-morrow (Sat).

Finn Class: Races Nine and Ten have been cancelled.  The Medal race for this class is now  scheduled for to-morrow (Sat).

Men’s 470 Class: Races Eight, Nine and Ten are scheduled for to-morrow (Sat).

Laser Radial Class: Races Five, Six and Seven are scheduled for to-morrow (Sat).
