Due to adverse conditions with strong winds on Thursday there was no racing in the  Star Class.  Today, Friday, Races 5 and 6 of the series were completed.    In Race 5 Peter O’Leary and David Burrows were again consistent and took 5th place in Race 5 and  8th in Race 6 leaving them  in 7th place overall and equal on points with a Polish crew in 6th place. The other Irish Star team of Maxwell Treacy and Anthony Shanks finished Race 5 in10th place and Race 6 in 11th leaving them on 57 points and 11th overall.

Tomorrow, Saturday, hopefully, will see Races 7 and 8 completed followed by the Medal Race in which the top ten crews will participate and the best of luck to the Irish teams we all hope to see within the top ten placings.

Today’s conditions at the Delta Lloyd Regatta at Medemblik proved to be in complete contrast to yesterday with its blustery conditions and race  delays waiting for conditions to settle.  Today the organisers had to wait for breeze to fill in before starting racing but did manage a full schedule of races and the Star Class have now completed four races in the competition which is the first of the Irish Olympic trials for Weymouth 2012.

Peter O’Leary and David Burrows had a 6th in Race 3 of the series today but dropped to a 20th in the light airs for Race 4.  They are now lying in 7th position on 37 points and still within the top ten.  Their Irish rivals in this hugely competitive 23 boat fleet, Maxwell Treacy and Anthony Shanks of the Royal St. George Yacht Club, suffered an OCS in Race 3 and finished in 15th place in Race 4 leaving them in 16th place overall on 60 points and well outside the top ten at the moment. The Cork/Dublin pairing will be hoping to discard their 20th as will Treacy and Shanks in the case of their OCS.

The forecast for Thursday’s racing is 15-20 knots in the morning gusting to 25 knots in the afternoon.  Fleet racing continues to Saturday with the Medal Race for the top ten boats in each fleet  on Sunday May 29th.
