O’Leary and Burrows finish Star Class World Championships in fourth position

A third place finish today for Michael Hestbaek and Claus Olesen from Denmark, and a fourteenth placing for the Irish sailors, turned the result on its head and denied O’Leary and Burrows the bronze medal.  Another turn up for the books was when Robert Scheidt and Bruno Prada went match racing with Iain Percy and Andrew Simpson.  Even though Percy got the best of the duel, nonetheless he was sailed down the fleet to finish thirty eighth to Brazil’s thirty nine.  When both these results were discarded it was the Brazilians who were seen to sail home flying their national flag and with it the Star World Championship. The British crew finished in second place

For the Irish pairing who had led the event after two days of racing, their consistency produced an exceptional result for them to finish fourth overall in this World Championship and they can move forward to the Olympic Regatta with greatly increased confidence.
