The leading boats in Class Zero were the Commodores Cup boats led by Mark Mansfield in Tim Costello’s Tiamat but the real tussle on the water was between Eamon Rohan’s Blondie helmed by Mark Richmond with Prof O’Connell on board, and a high powered team of Nin and Peter O’Leary aboard Marinerscove with newly crowned All Ireland Champion Nin steering and Peter calling tactics. Similar magnificent sailing action was going on right throughout the Class Zero, One and Two fleets.
Meanwhile the White Sail Fleets and Classes Three and Four sailed a laid triangle/sausage course off Trabolgan under the watchful eye of Richard Leonard and his team. The course saw many of the Whitesail boats being overtaken by their spinnakered neighbours. In the early afternoon the wind veered significantly to the North West as a cloud line passed bringing with it a fresh 13/15 knot breeze which resulted in the entire course having to be relaid.
Rear Admiral Sailing, Derry Good, and his band of volunteers as ever tackled the onerous task of compiling results for the large number of boats including several protests.
Prizes were presented by Fiona O’Connell of O’Flynn Exhams Solicitors for overall daily performance.
