Normal service resumes! What a week the Optimist Sailors and their families had in Baltimore last week. 17 Coaches from around Ireland and Europe gathered on Saturday evening together with 150 sailors from around the country to participate in the CH Marine Spring Training Week organised by IODAI.
There were 39 Royal Cork sailors aged from 9 to 14. Activities included movie night, disco, Rules Talk by International Judge Gordon Davies, guided walks for the parents, fitness sessions by “Run with Ros” and of course lots of sailing!.
Friday saw all the new skills acquired put to the test in a Regatta with RO Stephen O’Shaughnessy. The Junior and Senior Fleets raced 4 races in ever changing conditions and Regatta sailors also completed four on a separate race area.
Jamie Venner was 2nd in Regatta Fleet with Royal Cork sailors featuring strongly in the Junior Fleet with visitor Alfonso Murino 1st, Rob Keal 2nd, Harry Twomey 4th and Conor Walsh 5th. The Senior Fleet was won by Emily Whitaker followed in 2nd by Chris Bateman.
