National 18’s Club Champion of Champions

National 18’s are Club Champs

NATIONAL 18’S WIN THE RCYC CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS EVENT They came…. They saw… they conquered! Congratulations to the National 18 team of Kieran O’Connell, Tim Sullivan, Stephen O’Shaughnessy and Aengus Grant who swept aside everything the RCYC could through at them to win the title in the J80’s last Sat.  The event (Invitation Series style) was held on the bank in the J80 fleet and had 16 teams competing. Each class in the club entered a team both from keel boats and dinghies, junior and senior. Much was made of the strength of the teams with favorites including the SB3 and Laser teams. It was a light and difficult day but our dream team held it together to secure the title in a very tight two race final. The full report is on the RCYC web site so please take a look as I wasn’t there so writing about the sailing is difficult. I can write about the Dream Team though or, should I say D’Athletes.  It was a specially selected bunch with strength in depth in every area. Months of planning, secret early morning physical conditioning sessions and sports psychology that event Munster Rugby couldn’t match has contributed to this success. The team even ordered sparkling water for their champagne flutes in Cronins later that evening as a special celebration. Little did they know that Cava was on the way a little later to lead them astray…. There is no doubt that this success will open doors for the dream team.  Shocks is, as we speak, negotiating a lecture circuit along with his buddy Brad. Success will come at a cost though as he is contractually bound to Impecunious for Cork Week which is now loosing him a fortune as he has had to decline Dean Barker’s offer on the TP 52 Seriously lads, Were very pleased with the performance. Well done. There were other N18’s on the water last Sat. There was a tight bit of racing between Weitse, Edmund and Final Fling and it was great to see these guys out and having a bit of craic. Racing continues this wed and Sat. Please get out and support the class. Additionally Fri night is the RCYC mid summer night madness. There will be a pursuit race in aid of the RNLI so volunteers are necessary to get us participating. Cheers, Colin.
