National 18 Report

Report by Class Captain

Well you can’t say the 18ft class shy away from adverse sailing conditions after the Invitation series last Sat. The event, kindly sponsored by Timothy Sullivan and Associates, with beer provided by James Donnelly was a fest. Thanks to all those who participated. If it was your first time in a National 18 we hope you’ll be back. With only two races held due to the conditions there wasn’t the opportunity for all invitee’s to get a go. The conditions definitely required the use of the smaller firefly sails on the day but we hope you got a taste for more and want to have a go with the big sails up in normal conditions. Additionally with the social side lasting long into the night it hopefully gives you a feel for the class. The fleet races every Wed evening and Sat afternoon from the start of May to the end of Sept from the RCYC. If those new to the class would like to participate on a more regular basis please just get in touch with anyone you know in the class or call/text me on 087 4156655. There’s lots of opportunity to race on a regular basis. To the regulars thanks for all your help and support on the day. Peter O’Donovan will no doubt send a mail of thanks to those who helped him organize the event so I won’t attempt to get everyone here. I would however like to thank Peter for his time and effort in organizing and rejuvenating this event. Lets hope the summer appears next year. Wed night racing is livening up again with 6 boats out last week. Ball n Chain will soon arrive in the dinghy park, the RCYC “At Home” regatta is this weekend and with the Ballinacurra Cup 13th Sept and the National Championships 20/21st  September is looking like it’ll be a great finale to the season. See you out there……   Cheers, Colin.
