West Cork was the centre of all Irish dinghy activity last week with the Royal Cork decamping en mass to various training camps and events. In Baltimore the Irish Optimist Association ran another successful mid-term clinic attracting 150 boats from across the country. The week has long been a favourite for Royal Cork sailors and Oppie Class Captain, Rob Foster, hosted a welcome party for over 30 Royal Cork families on the Saturday and a great evening was had by all.
The west Cork micro climate was very co operative, the sailors were out training every day for the upcoming season. Over in Schull the ISA ran training camps for all the regional laser squads, both 4.7 and Radial, as well as the national topper squad. Not to be outdone, the whole of the national 420 fleet appeared to be in Schull for training followed by the Munster regional championships. A great mid-term was had by all involved, sailors and families both on and off the water. Well done everyone.
