Mater Private Cork At Home Regatta Day One

_DSC5348The Royal Cork At Home got underway today with a fantastic easterly breeze which provided fun and excitement for all the fleets racing both inside and outside the harbour.The cruiser fleet in the hands of Race Officer Kieren O”Connell got proceedings going over on the eastern bank by Cuskinny with the earliest start of the day.
The National 18’s were next off the line outside Roches Point for the first race of their National Championship. David O’Brien on board Serifa acting as Principal Race Officer in the superb breeze. Lots of excitement as the crews came to turns with decent waves and good breeze. More than one experienced outfit took some swimming lessons in the glorious conditions! A couple of minor “racing incidents” heightened the excitement and with slightly less breeze forecast for tomorrow and the intention to get in as many races as possible, should prove to be a brilliant day of racing with all to play for…_DSC5612
Next to hit the water in style were the Junior fleets with a huge turnout of Optimists and Lasers. The hot sailors of the Optimist fleets joined with a huge regatta fleet turnout who raced in the river.Todays Regatta fleet racers determined to be next years hardened sailors… A great number of Laser 4.7’s The two handers provided a goodly number with some RS Fevas, and the clubs own fleet of dinghies came out in their entirety to round out a cracking turnout on the Curlane Bank.
With a great forecast, tomorrow promises to be a day of great racing for the Royal Cork At Home!_DSC5800
