David Mossman of Marlow Ropes will be providing a presentation with a focus on teaching sailors which rope construction is best for their sheets/Halyards & rigging, and how the racing world is challenging/shaping the rope we are all using today.
The evening is split into two sections, 40 min presentation of Race boats from the Vendee Globe, Golden Globe, Olympic dinghy classes, and keelboat classes, this highlights the challenges from each boat type and the lessons learned. The second half is a splicing workshop lasting approximately 40 mins, where the basics of Dyneema splicing will be taught and everyone will leave with a 12 strand rope with a splice in each end.
There are some key messages within the presentation about Dyneema, for example, it loses 80% of its break load when you tie a knot in the rope which Marlow Ropes are keen to share at a club level.
The Splicing session is free of charge !! Marlow supplies the rope and tools for the session, it suitable for 8 years to 80 Years and up, Marlow has taught this splicing syllabus to the Optimist and Race fleets across the EU and David has taken 3500 sailors through this event at sailing clubs and championships as well as supporting RYA with this content.
This presentation will take place on Wednesday 24th May 2023 at 19.30hrs. Please contact the club office 021 48310123 or office@royalcork.com to register your interest in attending this event.
