RCYC sailors Conor Lyden and Peter Stokes achieve an excellent result at the Allen RS Feva European Championships held at at Acquafresca Yacht Club Lake Garda from 27th to 31st July.
Racing for day 5 was brought forward to an earlier start time of 8.30hrs. With winds of 26 to 28 knts the committee boat with more than 350 meters of anchor cable had difficulty holding, delaying the start by over an hour. The Silver fleet were not allowed launch until later due to the strong winds. The RCYC sailors got off to a bad start with a capsize in race 7 but fought their way back to get 23rd place. Race 8 saw them slow off the line and unable to get through the fleet leading to a 17th place. A 4th place in the last race of the series copper fastened their 3rd place overall.
Viki and Jane Cudmore found the conditions more to their liking and sailed very well to finish 26th overall in the Gold fleet
Brendan Lyden and Marc Cudmore again sailed very well to record a 10th,a 3rd and a 5th place on the last day of racing to finish 3rd overall in the Silver fleet.
RS Feva coaches Gillian Guinness and Jonathan Lewis should take a lot of credit for the performance of the RCYC sailors to achieve their best ever results at a RS Feva European Championships. Fernando and Stefano should also be given credit for bringing their sailing expertise to the RCYC sailors
