30 high calibre entries have already been received for the Liebherr Cruiser Nationals to be held in Dun Laoghaire from May 21st to 23rd and this number is expected to grow over the next week as the discounted entry fee deadline of 31st March approaches. A fleet from all coasts of Ireland will assemble and is expected to include 12 boats from the West. The overall entry is expected to reach 100 Boats.
Feeder races from Cork and Wales are planned and with the Cork feeder nominated as a qualifier for this years Round Ireland Race a strong entry is assured. This race will also be used by Irish Commodores’ Cup boats as a practice offshore. Already on the entry list with Commodores’ Cup interest are Anthony O’Leary’s ‘Antix’, the Creighton/Davies new build ‘Roxy 26’, featuring on her first offshore outing, and Tim Costello’s ‘Tiamat’.
Another well known name to feature in the entry list is Peter Rutter(GBR) in his QUOKKA 8. In QUOKKA 7 in 2008 the immensely talented Rutter battled the low visibility and tough competition to take his fifth title of the Rolex Commodores Cup.
The Host Club, Royal St George, is putting in a major effort to offer quality racing afloat and superb onshore entertainment as crews battle for the annual crown of being ICRA National Champions in their Class.
This year, in response to demand from the non spinnaker sector, an ICRA Corinthian Cup has been created to run alongside the Nationals on separate courses and is also expected to attract a good fleet.
Owners are encouraged to get in their entries early to help designate classes and overall planning for what promises to be a first class sailing event both on and off the water.
