Official Announcement today of David Kenefick’s Participation in the 2013 La Solitaire du Figaro

David Kenefick of the Royal Cork Yacht Club now sets his sights on a shorthanded offshore racing career.  He is certainly aiming high and will have the best wishes of the Admiral, Executive Committee, staff and members of the Royal Cork Yacht Club.

La Solitaire du Figaro is one of the toughest offshore races in the world.  Your scribe has long been an ardent follower of this event and often reminisces on the visits of the famous race to Ireland and the wonderful spectacle they made with their colourful spinnakers and the aura only the French can create with such style.  One visit to Cork stands out as a particularly memorable occasion with the famed Jan Le Cam, now competing in the Vendeé Globe, winning the Cork leg, and attending a magnificent reception and dinner hosted by Irish Distillers at Midleton where a tremendous evening was enjoyed. The memories are great and it is wonderful to think that young David Kenefick will now be involved on this gruelling but very exciting circuit.  The training, discipline, sheer grit and determination that will be required is enormous but there is no doubt that David Kenefick is well equipped with these qualities in abundance.  Bonne Chance from us all at Royal Cork.
