Roy Disney’s Pyewacket and Hasso Plattner’s Morning Glory battle it out in Cork Week 2006.

Junior Laying Up Zoom Registration

This year’s Junior Laying up will take place on Saturday 28th November at 19:00hrs on Zoom. Youth sailors, their families and other members are invited to join us for the evening which will include-

  • Presentation of end of year prizes across all youth fleets
  • A special talk from Pamela Lee, recent Round Ireland double handed record breaker
  • Presentation of the Frank Thompson award to our volunteer of the year
  • Presentation of the Pyewacket Award for the sailor(s) who best represented the Royal Cork in 2020

Pamela Lee(right) and Catherine Hunt are now the first to hold a world record of First All Female Double Handed circumnavigation of Ireland having set the record in their Figaro 3 last month in time of 3 days, 20 hours 29 mins having sailed a total of 761 nautical miles. Pam will share her journey to the record, involvement with the Magenta Project and tips for young sailors looking to make the most of our sport.

Roy Disney was also a long standing member of the Royal Cork Yacht Club. Having passed away in 2009, his legacy lives on in our Youth Sailing, through his generous bursary which, he donated for the benefit of our junior sailors and of course the Pyewacket Trophy. 

Ailish Thompson with her family Richard Peter and Rachel present the Frank Thompson Memorial Perpetual Cup for outstanding contribution to RCYC Dinghy Sailing in 2019 to Barbie and Clayton Kohl.
