Irish Sailing Youth Nationals
At Royal Cork Yacht Club  April 4th-7th

We are delighted to be hosting the Irish Youth Nationals in early April which will bring significant activity around the club to help ramp up the sailing season.

There will be upwards of two hundred youth sailors descending on the club and we hope to see our own European champions in the 29-er class competing in an exciting field. Ben O’Shaughnessy and Ethan Spain are defending their Youths title. Female European champions Alana Twomey and Lucia Cullen will be also hoping to top the podium. In ILCA, we expect to see Sienna Wright who recently won the U17 ILCA worlds and was 2nd overall in the ILCA 6 Youth worlds in Argentina. She will compete against a strong number of local sailors with a potential twelve local boats competing. Oisin Pierce is not defending his Irish Youths ILCA 4 Youths title which he won last year in Howth as he pursues victory in the 29er class. We also have at least six Royal Cork boats in the 420 division this year.  A very strong Optimist fleet will have more than a title on the line as these championships also finalise selection for the IODAI national team for 2024.
We are looking for a few more volunteers on the water and off and any offers of ribs for safety coverage would be appreciated.  The racing itself is expected to be on the Curlane bank and also in Cuskinny with Principal Race officer Anthony O’Leary. Leading the organisation is Tim McCarthy who can be contacted on 087 8530820  with offers to volunteer.
