Irish going well in UK Optimist Nationals

Two Royal Cork sailors are in great positions to challenge for the UK Optimist Junior Nationals in Largs Scotland halfway through the regatta. With four Irish sailors in the top seven after 5 races of the 12 race series things have gone very well for Team Ireland to date.

Peter McCann with two firsts, two seconds and a fourth leads the event from American sailor Adele Whitymer  with the British Freddie Grogono third and Cian Byrne fourth.  Adam Hyland of RStGYC is sixth and Sean Donnelly of the National YC seventh.

Inside the top twenty are two other Royal Cork sailors Sophie Browne (15th despite an OCS where she had finished 4th), and Daire Cournane (17th). Results for the Juniors can be accessed here.

In the Senior Fleet, club sailors Ruairi Finnigan is lying 10th with Patrick Crosbie currently 29th. Results for the Seniors can be accessed here.

The sailors have had to contend with variable conditions, and this lead to a very long Tuesday with the sailors finally getting off the water at 7 o’clock yesterday. Today looks better with 15 knots forecast.
