INTERNATIONAL STAR CLASS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS AT VARBERG SWEDEN

INTERNATIONAL STAR CLASS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS AT VARBERG SWEDEN

Big gains and big losses were the story of the day to-day. The fleet started under a black flag, lots of sunshine, flat water and a wind that continued to shift to the right during the afternoon.

Max Treacy and Anthony Shanks moved up to 17th position after finishing the fifth race of the Star worlds in Sweden in 13th place to-day. Peter O’Leary and Tim Goodbody are in 22nd position overall after a disappointing drop from second place at the first mark 12 places ahead of Treacy and Shanks. Their positions were reversed at the third mark with Treacy and Shanks rounding 10th with O’Leary and Goodbody 17th.   Current leaders are New Zealand, Pepper/Monk in first place followed by Szabo/Peters, USA, and Switzerland’s Marazzi/De Maria.

Coming in to to-to-morrow’s (Fri) final day of racing Treacy and Shanks are on 61 points with O’Leary/Goodbody on 69. With the keen rivalry between them and only 8 points separating them, and given the flukey sailing conditions that appear to exist in Varberg, it should make for a very interesting day of racing.
