Thirty Optimists turned out in the main fleet for the first Saturday league race of the July / August League. This was a particularly fine level of attendance for the first outing since Cork Week and was in great part due to the substantial contribution of the instructors on the sailing courses in including the racing as part of the course for the day.
Results are available here (and this writer would greatly appreciate an email from those new sailors who I have not been able to identify on the results).
A further 30 or so Optimists were given on the water coaching and training under the patient guidance of Tom Crosbie and his sister Liz Shanahan.
Seafra Guilfoyle continued his excellent form by winning two of the races but pride of place must go to Rory McCarthy who won the second race despite a broken tiller extension. Amy Harrington was her usual consistent self with a second and two fourths to lie second overall. Philip Brownlow and Chloe Crosbie are on the same points in 3rd and 4th while Patrick Crosbie’s day would have been much better but for an OCS in the last race.
Other notable results were Louise Shanahan who is continuing to improve and Michael O’Donovan who was unluky to be pipped into third place in the second race.
