From the serenity of Oysterhaven Creek last evening to the pathos and tragedy of today

Last evening Your photographer and scribe had found their way up to the heights over Oysterhaven bay to wait patiently for the exact moment to capture the scene.  We waited over an hour watching the clouds moving across the sky and wondering if in fact we would catch it.   The Gathering Cruise had come into Oysterhaven for their scheduled stopover and to enjoy their BBQ before travelling on to Kinsale today. Some twelve to fifteen boats were moored there with Astrid having anchored somewhat further out the bay as she had too much draft to come in closer. She is seen on the left hand side of the picture.

Patience was rewarded and at last the desired shot was captured and we drove home on the lovely evening with ne’er a thought in the world anything would be amiss today.  It was all a dreadful shock and while being most thankful everyone is safe and well, it is always a tragedy to see the death of a beautiful vessel. All our sympathies go to anyone who was in any way involved with this awful misadventure.

Well done to all to those involved with the successful rescue of everybody on board.
