Fastnet survivor charity sail.

Dermot O’Flynn was only 18 years old when, as a crew member on board the yacht Silver Foam in the ill fated Fastnet race in 1979, he experienced one of the worst storms ever to hit a sailing race.

To mark the 30th anniversary of the 1979 Fastnet race, Dermot and crew member Professor Ciaran O’Boyle, plan to sail a 16′ Topper dinghy from the Fastnet rock to Crosshaven this August.

All funds raised will go to the RNLI as a mark of respect to the bravery shown by the Irish and UK RNLI crews in the subsequent rescue effort.
