The duty on diesel for “Pleasure Boats” is set to rise by 32 cent per Litre from November 1st.
The recently published finance bill has confirmed fears of the rise. The price at the pumps, will however, remain unchanged (apart from the now regular fuel price rises).
From November 1st. 2008, the onus will be on individual boat users to maintain records of diesel fuel purchased during the calendar year. The boat owner must then make a payment of approx. 32 cent per litre purchased to the Revenue Commissioners. This payment must be made not later than the following March 1st.
This will be handled differently in the UK where the price at the pump will be increased to reflect the rise in duty.
