Lough Ree Yacht Club hosted its biennial Double Ree Regatta for the 5th time, on the 25th & 26th of July.  It proved to be a double hit for RCYC sister sailors Jenny & Aisling O’Connor represented RCYC Feva Fleet and Caoimhe & Frances Corkery represented RCYC/KYC/ISKC 420 fleet.  This event hosted five youth double-handed fleets, from across the country and is one of Ireland’s leading double-handed sailing festivals.

4 races were held on Saturday, 12-14kts with gusts of 22kts max with typical slight lake chop.  2 races were held on Sunday, which was heavier with 16-20kts and gusts up to 24kts.

Jenny & Aisling achieved 2nd in the Gold Feva Fleet having a 1st and four 2nds in their 6 races.

Caoimhe & Frances achieved 4th in the Gold 420 Fleet having a 1st, two 5th and two 6th in their six races, in their first event sailing together.

Double Ree continued to showcase the many benefits of double-handed sailing. Sailing with a partner develops teamwork, communication and boat handling skills, while creating a social and supportive environment that encourages young sailors to stay involved in the sport.  Something both fleets work hard to maintain in Royal Cork Yacht Club too.
