There was no joy for the Irish sailors at the opening day of the Princess Sofia Regatta. Best of the Irish results went to James Espey in the Laser Class who achieved a 30th overall position out of 140 boats after three races.
Annalise Murphy fared badly in the light conditions and could only manage 32, 46 and 48 after three races to leave her finishing 88th overall in the 96 boat Laser Radial fleet. Leading at the moment after three races are Maritt Bouwmeester (Ned),Chloe Martin (GBR) and Josefin Olsfon (Swed).
Saskia Tidey and Andrea Brewster, new aspirants to the Olympic racing scene, racing a 49erfx, managed 19th, 21st and 23rd positions leaving them in 57th position overall in the 79 boat fleet.
