On a very windy day with west to north west winds it was eventually to be after 5pm before Race Officer Officer John Moynihan could get racing under way. He set a windward/leeward course on the Eastern Bank off Aghada and with the weather mark close to the Spit. However, the wait proved to be worth it as the fleet enjoyed two great races and provided plenty of thrills and spills with even the heavy weather experts, Anthony O’Leary and Mark Mansfield both experiencing round ups despite the smaller jibs and kites.
In Race One Anthony O’Leary was first around the weather mark and in Race Two Paul Gibbons was in a similar position.
