Darkness Into Light Harbour Cruise

In 2009 the inaugural Darkness Into Light initiative to raise funds for Pieta took place. From small beginnings, the movement has continued to grow, and now there are over 150,000 participants in Darkness Into Light each year.  Pieta is 80% funded by fundraising events like Darkness Into Light. Since Darkness Into Light began, supporters have helped Pieta raise over €36 million.

In support of the Darkness Into Light fundraising event, on Saturday 6 May 2023, the Admiral will lead a fleet of Royal Cork boats on a cruise around Cork Harbour and return to the clubhouse to enjoy a complimentary breakfast. All entry fees for the event will be donated to Pieta as well as any additional donations received from participants

All craft participating will be required to depart the Royal Cork Marina at 04.45 hrs to muster at C1 buoy at 05.15 hrs and then proceed to follow the Admiral on a cruise around Cork Harbor. After the cruise, a complimentary breakfast will be served in the clubhouse for all participants.

As the event will start in darkness, all participating boats should be fitted with serviceable navigation lights, VHF Radio and safety equipment. Lifejackets are to be worn by all participants during the event.

Members who wish to take part and would like to crew on a participating boat should also register and we will try to accommodate you either on a club boat or another member’s boat.

For those planning to stay on board their boats the night before the event (Fri 5 May 23), we hope to organise a social supper and entertainment in the clubhouse. We will also try and provide visiting berths on the marina for members’ boats if required.

In order to facilitate planning for the event, members are required to complete the Event Registration Form Here Once the information has been collated, further details will be communicated to those who have registered. For the purpose of clarity, all vessels wishing to take part must register their participation.
